Hard rules rarely last. A “phones downstairs after nine” policy might work for a week, then life gets messy.
We settled on a softer cue: dimmed lights, kettle off, and one fiction chapter. The phone stays on silent in another room — not banned forever, just not the last thing we see.
If you need your phone for alarms, try grayscale mode in the evening. Small friction can reduce mindless scrolling.
